The Pride of Mauritius/ Walking the dog…oops Lion! / A walk on the wild side
An activity worth checking out on your holiday in Mauritius is the ‘Walk with Lions’ adventure tour. This activity is available at the Casela Nature and Leisure Park. The walk is done daily all year round. Visitors to the park get the opportunity to take a walk with lions. This of course is under the watchful eyes of experienced guides. The lions on the walk are young lions under the age of 2. Participants are allowed to touch and play with the lions. This makes for an excellent photo opportunity. The park has professional photographers conveniently on hand to do just that! A videographer is included too.
The duration of the walk with the lions is about an hour. The walk is done in groups and each group has two lions in tow. And it will cost you about 60 pounds. The price varies depending on group size. The larger the group, the cheaper it is.
Before the start of the walk, participants are taken through a safety briefing. The lions after all are still wild animals and can be dangerous. After the briefing, participants get to meet their lions and the handler. The walk is open only to person above 14. You also have to be at least 4 feet 9 inches tall.
If walking with the lions is too much for you, the Casela nature park also has a bird park. There you can get to see the Mauritian Pink Pigeon, one of the rarest birds in the world.
