Getting around in Mauritius
When planning to travel to a new destination one of the many things you should consider is how you will get around once you get there. When you book your Mauritius holidays, you will find the most popular means to get around the Island is by bus, by taxi or by a rental car.
By bus
Mauritius has an excellent bus service network and it is quite possible to reach most parts of the Island by bus. There are at least five major bus companies including, Mauritius Bus Transport (MBT), National Transport Corporation and United Bus Service (UBS) and numerous individual operators. However, none of these operators cover the entire island. The bus tickets are cheap and it is advisable to have them handy as bus inspectors frequently ask to see them. Air-conditioned buses are also available on some routes, making your bus ride relatively comfortable.
By Taxi
There are many metered taxis available and they are probably the best way to visit the island. Metered taxis are easily recognisable as their registration plates have a white background with black lettering as opposed to private vehicles that have a black background with white lettering. Though un-metered taxis promise lower fares, it is recommended that you avoid them as there have been cases of reported theft.
By rental car
There are many international car rental companies that offer affordable and reliable cars with a full back-up network. You can also opt to rent cheaper cars from local firms which are largely reliable. Note, in Mauritius you drive on the left side of the road, just as in Commonwealth countries. Your driver’s licence is accepted as long as it has been issued by a competent authority in your country so do not forget to carry it if you intend to rent a car.
Going on holiday to Mauritius you really should explore this paradise so allow for yourself to be mobile and enjoy relaxing as well as exploring.
